Are you originally from London? If not, what was your journey here like?

No, I’m not from London but not too far in Portsmouth. I couldn’t wait to escape to London. As soon as I passed my driving test at 18 I packed my bags and left in my little Peugeot 106. All i wanted was to really push my art and hairdressing. I lived on my friends sofa for a few weeks in Wimbledon then onwards to Peckham where I rented a tiny little shoe box bedroom for the next couple of months. It was so exciting, I felt totally free in my mind to finally express who I am. I met Sophie and Poll Duniam of the band ‘MY BAD SISTER’ - these amazing underground creative twins and that’s really where  all the magic started from meeting them.

What about the city inspires you?

Everything!... The mix of people, Art scene, Nights out.  And where I live Deptford most of all. Makes me feel so free no one judges you in this area of London, it’s a real community down here. Also being with all my friends, living in an amazing space makes me feel inspired and opens my mind with pure happiness and creativity.

Where do your inspirations come from?

People always ask that question but I always find it quiet hard to put my finger on it.  I love clowns (not the evil ones) my home is covered in huge paintings and pictures of colourful clowns. I love everything about clowns from their performances to their outfits.

My style I’ve created is called ‘ JüNgòLà KLÒWN’  (Which is colourful jungle street style KLOWN) I do arty comedy performances called (CANDYKONK) With my Girlfriend Toni Tits.  But apart from that, the world inspires me; different tribes difficult cultures, the whole mix of people all over the world. My colourful friends  inspire me as we all bounce ideas off one another.

Who’s your favourite designer?

Lady Gonzalez, Jylle Navarro, Rubbish Fairy

Can you describe your aesthetic?

I create a hybrid look which combines different eliminates of Clown Ragg doll, Gentlemen’s outfits and extreme colourful patterns. I love to merge lots of different prints layering it up with accessories. I have large collection of hats, ones I’ve made and found. l decorate them with my ‘JüNgòLà KLÒWN’  style  of different  textiles, beads, jewels, tassels, bells and so on.  My aesthetic is constantly evolving specially with the weather. In summertime I look totally different to the winter. More layering of hanging fabrics, African style hats I’ve transformed with lots of chains, extreme face paint and JüNgòLà style makeup.

Why do you transform people ?

I’ve always been into transforming people since I was a kid, I’ve always played dress up and styled and cut my friends hair. Their parents used to hate me, I’d have them calling me up on the phone screaming “why have you shaved all my boys’ hair off!?”

My life is one big constant transformation. It makes you feel so good inside when you’ve transformed yourself, it keeps my mind stimulated and excited and gives a meaning to getting up and going out each day. It’s the same with transforming other people- they love it, that before and after look. In my Tuttii Fruittii Trailer Hair it’s all about the transformation. People love to come in and let me loose on there hair.  Most clients always say do what you want because they trust my creative eye and I guess seeing my work it inspires them to feel different and free. Transforming people helps them open another happy creative door in their mind. Once they’ve undergone a transformation they go home and grow further from that experience of expression in style and hair. It’s a beautiful thing.

How do you create your costumes? Where do you find the materials?

I create costumes for our tribe of women  ‘HAUS OF SEQUANA’   (HAUSOFSEQUANA.TUMBLR.COM) and ‘CandyKONK’ ( Performing KLOWN Comedy Sketches). Most of our materials are all recycled from markets, charity shops, off the streets, the junk people throw away- anything that catches our eye really.  For sequana we are all masked women with psychedelic patterned materials, full body paint, large tribal head pieces.

What is the dream that drives you?

The dream that drives me is freedom of expression, being yourself and creating art with hair and performance. Pushing boundaries and never to be afraid in doing what you believe in.  Love yourself and the people that surround you. Stay positive and talk out loud to the universe- that helps my dreams a lot. Believing in myself and my creative mind really gives me that drive.

How do you see Tuttii Friuttii growing?

Tuttii Fruittii is my name and my art. I see myself and the art growing by just carrying on doing what I do really…  In hairdressing transformations learning new hair skills so I create endless amounts of unusual looks and push that out there as far as possible. As well as travelling the globe performing  with ‘Haus Of Sequana’ and ‘CandyKONK’.

Tell us a bit more about the new salon?

The new Tuttii Fruittii Trailer hair salon - a technicolour mobile hair salon stationed near ‘Old Tide Mill School Frankham Street’. It’s a one-of-a-kind hair salon that offers dramatic, personalised hair transformations to a free-thinking clientele. One thing I can guarantee is you will leave feeling like this is the exact look you wanted. It really doesn’t have to be over the top, it’s all about what you want. http://tuttiifruittii.tumblr.com/

Where were you doing appointments before the move?

I used to work part time in a Barber Shop in Fleet Street creating classic mens looks. This inspired me to move on and work for myself doing what I love, creating the most unique, dynamic hair transformations.

What do you love about clowns?

Everything… The patterned colourful looks and exaggerated make-up especially. I love the trickster, mischievous, breaking the rules side of it. I’ve always been into clowns since I was a kid when my mum used to make me clowns outfits so I guess its never left me. It’s my soul, it’s who I am.  Not taking things to seriously, mucking about having a laugh, its what its all about.

This is our link to some of our clownie videos and images - http://candykonk.tumblr.com/

Actually we have  just created me and Toni Tits a new extreme ‘CandyKONK’  KLOWN  Psychedelic  Music video for our French Producer friend ‘ Strapontin’ which you can also watch on the website above.

Is there a club kid regeneration happening?

Well this is what we’ve been told a few times.

But I feel we have something fresh and new to express. And that would be again in our Tribe of people ‘  JüNgòLà KLÒWNS’ that is who we all  are and that is the new colourful regeneration of expression.

Lamé chats to possibly the most eclectic costume and hair makeover takeover our generation has ever seen. The London-based travelling makeover maven goes by Tuttii Fruittii to us, her admirers and Sophie Gregson to her parents. From magazines to theatre, music videos and fine art- Tuttii’s had her hand in it all and is finally launching her very own hair salon. By day, their mobile salon transforms the coolest crowd in London into fanciful, conceptual clowns. By night, Tuttii and her girlfriend Toni Tits roam the city in their distinctly unique ‘JüNgòLà KLÒWN’ style. Scroll down for more.
