ED MARLER

Member of Fashion East, incredibly talented designer in his own right and occasional DJ at the George and Dragon, one of Princess Julia’s (link to interview) favourite East London haunts. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg concerning how cool Ed Marler really is. His collections are all crowns and gowns galore for girls and for boys. As Dazed Digital refers to his aesthetic, “in Marler’s world, every moment is sparkle-worthy”.

A student of the late Louise Grey, Ed is all about glamourised self-expression. He says he designs with “a girl or boy who has these delusions of grandeur” in mind. “Although they might live in a scruffy flat and lead an ordinary life, they want to feel like a princess” he envisions. Sounds like his ideals are close to home. With bouncing curls, thigh-high split skirts and an adornment of fake gold for both genders proves Ed’s taste for monarch-tastic bad taste isn’t going out of fashion anytime soon. Long may he reign!

MARY BENSON

A touch of cartoonish motifs, a smattering of Leigh Bowery-style face paint and a whole lot of 70s shapes equals the designs of Mary Benson. Scribbles of words, faces and prints play an important part here, giving 20-year-old Mary a girlish charm element that’s impossible to resist. She was dressing celebrities, creating custom artworks and selling her own fully-fledged collection before she even graduated her Fashion BA course at Westminster. This holographic, plastic dream-queen with vision has got the world in her palm. After debuting at London Fashion Week this February to rave reviews and fan-girl level adoration, Mary Benson is firmly putting fantastical fashion at the forefront. Her imagination is seemingly limitless. We can’t wait to see what 70s, star-filled, flamingo-topped amazingness she’ll create next.

FYODOR GOLAN

Who is the next Proenza Schouler-esque design duo on the scene? Why, I’m so glad you asked. Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman both studied fine art and have grown together to create Fodar Golan, the most advanced and inventive designer brand out there today. Nothing is off-limits from sportswear, puffy fabric that looks like a duvet, 3D embroidery and My Little Pony. With all of this girlishness, you’d think the label is only for the uber-camp camp. Wrong. Every season sparks ingenuity and re-invention in the classic structures and confines of womenswear. Exploring notions of reality in the modern woman’s urban surroundings, Fyodar Golan are the next big thing. They’re largely influenced by their travels to Hong Kong and China which sparks their quest for the newer than new. They know what you want and need before you do, stay tuned.

ENGINEERED GARMENTS

Though New York label Engineered Garments is nothing new, they are constantly reinventing the cool factor of men’s clothing. Reimaging elements of classic menswear to be worn for anyone, anytime is designer Daiki Suzuki’s genius. The modern dandy would relish in the tailored perfection of this season's jackets and tapered trousers. Littered with early 1980s menswear shapes in fabrics such as leopard skin and embroidered bouclé, this collection is to be worn easily by girls and boys. Engineered Garments also publish 'The Garment District Journal' filled with New York street style and club memorabilia; a very interesting read.
